Daily brushing
Let the brush help. Keep your touch gentle.
A powered toothbrush can take some of the effort out of brushing and give useful reminders along the way. The benefit comes from how you use it: regular cleaning, gentle pressure, and attention to every tooth surface.

Philips
Sonicare ExpertClean
A powered brush with guidance features for a more consistent daily routine.
- How it works
The moving bristles do the brushing work while you guide the head across each surface. Supported models pair pressure feedback with timing and connected progress information.
- Why it matters
These prompts can help you notice heavy pressure or rushed sessions and make small, repeatable improvements.
- Keep in mind
Features differ across ExpertClean models. Connectivity is optional support for your routine; an app report is not a dental examination or a guarantee of complete cleaning.
Small details, everyday benefits
Why the features matter.
Pressure feedback → a lighter touch
A pressure alert is a reminder to ease up. Pressing harder does not make the head work better. Let the bristles contact the tooth and gumline gently.
Timing prompts → more even attention
Use the timer and pacing cues to work around your mouth. Spend time on the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces rather than repeatedly brushing only the areas that feel easiest.
Modes and progress information → a routine you understand
Choose the setting you can use comfortably and correctly. If your model connects to the Sonicare app, its progress information can help you notice habits; ask us to check the technique behind those numbers.
Put it into practice
What use and care involve.
Prepare
Apply fluoride toothpaste to a soft brush head and position it before turning the handle on.
Guide gently
Move through the areas of your mouth in a consistent order. Follow your model’s head-position and movement instructions; ask for a hands-on demonstration if the motion feels unfamiliar.
Finish the full routine
Aim for two minutes, twice a day. Cleaning between your teeth remains a separate daily task.
Understand the essentials
Let’s take a closer look.
Is powered brushing right for you?
Both manual and powered brushes can clean effectively. A powered handle may be helpful if hand movement is difficult, you tend to rush, or you struggle to maintain a gentle technique. Choose a soft head and a handle you can comfortably control. A good fit matters more than choosing the longest feature list.
Understand your exact model
ExpertClean is a family of Philips Sonicare brushes. Modes, included heads, accessories, and app features vary by model. Check the model number and instructions for the brush you have before buying replacement parts or assuming that a feature is included.
Look after the tool
Rinse the brush head after use and let it air dry upright. Avoid sharing a brush. Replace a head with frayed bristles, usually around every three to four months or as its instructions advise. Follow the device manual for cleaning the handle and charging safely.
A few common questions
Good questions. Clear answers.
Do I have to use the app?
A connected feature can be helpful if reminders motivate you. The essential job is still gentle, thorough brushing. Check your model’s instructions for use with or without the app.
Why do my gums still bleed if I use a powered brush?
A different brush does not diagnose or treat every cause of bleeding. Let us assess persistent bleeding and check your technique instead of increasing the pressure.
Make it personal
Ask your
dental team.
Bring these questions to your next visit.
- Can you watch me use my brush and check the pressure?
- Which head fits both my mouth and this handle?
Pause and reflect
A quick check-in.
One question to help the idea stick. There’s no score, and you can try again.
Your brush signals that you are pressing too hard. What should you do?
Read the answer
Ease the pressure and guide the head gently
The pressure signal is useful when it changes your technique. Gentle contact and complete coverage remain the goal.
